Kinja'd!!!

Local dealer that I've dealt with before and has a pretty positive reputation has a '99 911 for $18k. I wondered why I've never seen it on my nationwide cheap 911 searches that I do every so often (about every other day.)

Then I found out why.

TIPTRONIC! Hide your women and children! Flee the country! Your homes aren't safe!

I'm not saying I would never get one but I really want a clutch if I ever get a 911. How about you Oppo? Would you take a clutchless 911?

Just so we're clear PDK has clutches so you can't have one of those either if you're going clutchless. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for those who may be interested.

You can get a manual one for not that much more. So for that Tippytron(That's what I call it), HELL NAH!! :P

I don't know. 911 prices, even 996 prices seem to keep creeping up.

I've seen two cheaper manuals recently so I still think I'd have to insist on one. The 996 with it that I drove wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be though.

A 991? Yes. A 996? No way.

Creeping up? The 996 has reached an all time low; if it is indeed going back up, then I'm screwed on a 997 -_-

Hopefully it's only temporary.

A friend of ours actually bought an automatic 996 as his work car. He goes around North/South Carolina, and Southern VA fixing audiology equipment. Having a manual in "wasn't practical," for him. He only paid $12,000 for it, and he likes it.

If I had a choice, I'd get a manual. But it's still a Porsche.

I would buy a manual 911 which was literally missing a clutch before I bought a Tip 911. I would rather buy a non-functioning car than a slushbox 911. So, I don't know how to answer your question.

Drive it and see if you like it. Don't hate for the sake of hate.

I would feel too guilty driving a 911 on a test drive the way I'd need to to see if an auto would be ok.

Have you been on vintage wheels yet (formerly Tailpipe.co) ? https://www.vintagewheels.com/search/?query=…

Drive it. If you like it, buy it and tell the Philistines to go get stuffed. Frankly I'd be more worried about the car having a good solid service record...

is the tiptronic the same as in the boxster? my wife's (tip boxster) wasn't that bad when you drove it abusively. Absolutely horrid transmission for normal every day driving as a plain auto, but it worked fine when you floored it, slammed on the brakes, etc.

Would consider dual clutch (PDK/DSG), but not a torque converter automatic, paddles or not. And we need to stop calling dual clutches "automatics" because there's a big difference between them and traditional, planetary gearset autos.

Just bought my first 911, a 997 with the 6 speed manual. I drove a tiptronic just to see, and my goodness, it is nothing like PDK. It is so much worse.

So, no, I would not buy one with a slushbox, even though they run considerably less expensive than the manuals. It's worth the aftermarket premium to have one with a manual.

Go to Carmax. Here in SoCal there are often more than one 911 on the lot. Anything '08 and earlier has a tip if automatic, and those dudes do not mind if you drive it like you stole it. That's how I found out I could never live with the tippecanoe.
